"Like a rusty knife for my skin." 2004-08-31
By Alexander L. Belikoff (NY, United States)
Sadly, this razor is incompatible with me. I have never had any problem with the Mach line of razors and I cannot recall when I cut myself last time with them. However, the CustomPlus always leaves me bleeding. Unlike the Mach, there is a really uncomfortable feeling of scrapping my skin off with this blade and nasty burning afterwards. This is probably the most uncomfortable kind of razor I have ever used.

"Beats scraping with a glass shard and cold water" 2002-08-31
By Joseph Haschka (Glendale, CA USA)
I'm trying to remember when the hormone surge kicked in and I started shaving, but memory fails. Perhaps as a frosh in high school. In any case, I do recall starting out with a double-edged blade that, if one was careful, could double as a tool for slicing open cardboard boxes or rasping paint off window panes. I had a brief flirtation with electric razors, both the rotary and rectangular-head types, but they performed inconsistently when challenged by my heavy beard - five o'clock shadow at two. Besides, they're useless for removing paint off glass. I graduated to injector blades, and then to single-blade cartridges. Both were acceptable, and I stayed with them for years, even during my bearded phase when I still had to neaten the edges. Finally came the greatest invention since the double-cheeseburger/large fries combo - the twin-blade skin scraper. The ultimate form of this miracle for sissies who can't dry shave with a KA-BAR knife is the disposable twin razor with "comfort strip". And the best one I've found is Gillette's CUSTOM PLUS DISPOSABLE RAZOR, SENSITIVE SKIN, either the pivot or fixed head. (I like the concept of a disposable anything that will top off those landfills with long-enduring plastic waste to bedevil future generations, especially if it results in toxic seepage.)

I can hear you thinking, "Now, 'ang on a minute, guv." If a double-blade works so well, wouldn't the recently introduced triple-blade do better? (Will they come out with a quad-blade, do you think?) No, actually not, at least on my handsome mug. Sure, the triple works perfectly well on my legs and underarms, but it fails to get with ease those awkward spots right under the nostrils and the lower lip. And who needs to pay extra for that hassle first thing in the AM before dragging off to the old 9 to 5? The CUSTOM PLUS is light and maneuverable, with a spiffy, ridged, rubberized grip that stays in my hand even when I slip in the shower. I can get two shaves with each razor before the "comfort strip" wears out, but that's OK since the macho 32-pack lasts over two months. And besides, who wants to live that long, anyway?

One of the best things about this razor is that it never feels like a new razor. I hate new razors; they always leave me bleeding. This razor never once nicked my skin and I always got a great shave. I'll buy them from now on.

"The Gillette Custom Plus Pivot Razor, Sensitive Skin ..." 2000-02-18

The Gillette Custom Plus Pivot Razor, Sensitive Skin is great for young men and ladies. However, the razor wasn't good for my husband who has a tough beard. He cut himself in several places trying to get a good shave. My 21-year-old son had no complaints.

"I found the razor to be average as ..." 2000-02-14

I found the razor to be average as far as other razors on the market that I have tried. The lubricating strip was nice for the first shave or two but then was useless. The razor did a fair job of giving me a close shave but, again, no better than other razors currently on the market. Would I recommend it to friends and family? No.
